Seven years in a 13-foot Scamp trailer. An environmental design education. And a conviction that the constraints of small-space living produce fundamentally better objects.

Barron Link
Background
Barron and his wife Elsa spent seven years living full-time in a Scamp camper — not as a vacation, but as a deliberate strategy. They traveled through Colorado, Arizona, Utah, and Montana, eventually purchasing land in Colorado and building their own home. That experience stripped away assumptions about what matters in the field and replaced them with tested knowledge.
The Designer

Constraints produce
better objects.

Barron has a background in environmental design and a conviction that limitations force clarity. That philosophy was tested and refined over seven years of living in 78 square feet. When your kitchen is 24 inches wide, every tool has to earn its place. When your storage is measured in cubic inches, multi-function isn't a feature — it's survival.

He knows what works because he's lived it. He knows what fails because he's experienced the failure in the field — the cutting board that warps, the table that won't deploy in wind, the storage system that looked good in a garage but fell apart at a campsite in Montana.

Nomadic Systems is his opportunity to translate that lived experience into products that help others spend time in the field with better tools. Every product decision runs through the filter of his actual camper life — not theories about what campers might want.

Design Philosophy

How Barron approaches
every product decision.

Principle 01
Field-test everything
No product ships without extended field use. If it hasn't survived a week at a campsite — in wind, in rain, with dirty hands — it isn't ready. Prototypes live in the camper, not the workshop.
Principle 02
Materials dictate the design
5052-H32 aluminum, waxed canvas, 304 stainless hardware. The material choice is the design choice. Nothing pretends to be something it's not. Everything ages with character.
Principle 03
Deploy like putting on a jacket
If setup is a hassle, the equipment doesn't get used. Every product is designed for a deployment ritual that's satisfying and repeatable — not flat-pack assembly under a headlamp.
